When a customers asked me to quote a job I always ask what type of garden they are looking for.
Their answer to me is always low to no maintenance. Being a landscaper we all know that this never the case. Having a garden can be very rewarding if maintained. You will always get unwanted plants “weeds” growing in the garden. The soil needs to cultivated every spring and new soil is essential. Regular deadheading and weeding is necessary.
Perennials & Annuals
I do recommend that annuals are placed around perennials or as a border. This will give the garden a cohesive aesthetic look.
Most perennials will last through the winter, but it does happen that some may not survive. As perennials grow you may notice the size increasing and causing over crowding. You may want to divide the plant or remove it to make space. It is essential to know what perennials bloom and at what time.
Having constant blooms in your garden from spring to fall plays a big role in where the plants are placed. This is what keeps a garden looking fresh from season to season.
